YEGO Global Launches MeterMoto in Nairobi

Rwandan-founded mobility company YEGO Global has launched MeterMoto in Nairobi, marking its entry into Kenya’s boda boda market after onboarding more than 4,000 riders.
The launch brings YEGO’s digitally enabled mobility model into one of Kenya’s most important and widely used transport segments. Boda bodas play a critical role in urban and peri-urban mobility, providing an accessible and flexible transport option while supporting livelihoods for thousands of riders across the country.
MeterMoto combines app-based booking with the ability for passengers to flag down participating riders, bringing a digital layer to a transport model that has traditionally operated largely through street-based and informal interactions.
The platform uses metered fares based on time and distance, providing passengers with greater visibility over pricing while giving riders access to a structured digital platform for connecting with customers. Riders are also required to undergo YEGO’s verification process before joining the network, supporting greater accountability and trust within the platform.
A Growing Digital Mobility Ecosystem
YEGO’s entry into Nairobi comes as Kenya’s mobility ecosystem continues to evolve. Digital platforms are increasingly being used to organise, finance and improve access to transportation, while the rapid emergence of electric two-wheelers is beginning to reshape the economics and environmental footprint of motorcycle-based mobility.
The convergence of these trends, digital booking and payments, data-driven fleet management, rider verification and the transition towards electric motorcycles, is creating new opportunities across Kenya’s two-wheeler mobility sector.
For DFP, MeterMoto’s launch is particularly encouraging given our engagement with YEGO since its earlier stages. The company’s expansion into Kenya demonstrates the potential for African mobility businesses to develop solutions that can be adapted across markets and scaled regionally.
Nairobi provides a particularly important market for this expansion. The city’s large and active motorcycle-taxi ecosystem, combined with increasing demand for convenient and digitally enabled transportation, creates a strong environment for new mobility models to develop.

As Kenya continues to invest in electric mobility and digital infrastructure, platforms such as MeterMoto could play an increasingly important role in connecting riders and passengers while contributing to the broader formalisation and evolution of the two-wheeler transport sector.
DFP congratulates Karanvir Singh and the YEGO Mobility team on the launch and looks forward to seeing how MeterMoto develops in Kenya and across the region.
DFP Perspective
The launch highlights a broader trend we are seeing across Africa: mobility companies are increasingly building platforms that sit at the intersection of transportation, technology and financial inclusion.
The opportunity is not simply to digitise existing transport services, but to build more structured ecosystems around riders and vehicles, creating opportunities for improved access to finance, insurance, fleet management, charging infrastructure and other services as the sector matures.
With more than 4,000 riders already onboarded, YEGO’s Nairobi launch provides an early indication of the scale that digitally enabled two-wheeler mobility platforms can achieve in the Kenyan market.
