DFP Visits Geviton in Nairobi to Explore the Infrastructure Behind Africa’s EV Transition

Last week, Double Feather Partners visited the Geviton team in Nairobi to learn more about SafiVolt, the company’s interoperable EV charging and battery management platform. The visit provided an opportunity to see how Geviton is approaching one of the less visible but increasingly important challenges in Africa’s transition to electric mobility: building the infrastructure that allows EVs to operate reliably at scale.

Building the Infrastructure Behind Electric Mobility

Kenya’s electric mobility ecosystem is expanding rapidly, particularly across electric motorcycles, commercial vehicles and logistics fleets. As more vehicles enter the market, the need for reliable charging infrastructure and effective battery management becomes increasingly important.

SafiVolt is designed to address this infrastructure challenge by enabling interoperability across EV charging and battery management systems. This can help operators manage charging more efficiently while creating greater flexibility as different vehicle technologies and charging networks develop.

The importance of this infrastructure becomes particularly clear for commercial fleets. For operators whose vehicles generate revenue throughout the day, charging downtime can directly affect utilisation and economics. Reliable energy management is therefore becoming an operational requirement rather than simply a supporting feature.

Learning Directly from the Market

The visit also reflects how DFP approaches its work with founders across Africa. Spending time with companies on the ground allows us to understand not only the technology being developed, but also the operational realities, customer requirements and infrastructure constraints that shape whether a solution can scale.

The Next Layer of Kenya’s EV Ecosystem

Kenya has established itself as one of Africa’s leading markets for electric mobility, but continued growth will require investment across the wider ecosystem.

Charging networks, battery management, energy systems, financing, fleet technology and technical services will all play a role in determining how quickly electric mobility can move from early adoption to large scale commercial deployment.
