1. African Startup Fundraising Trends (Based on Disclosed Transactions)

Debt, not equity, defined July — M-KOPA’s $30M facility and three South African debt rounds drove 81% of disclosed volume, even as deal activity spread evenly across the Big Four​.

3. African Startup M&A Activity (Based on Disclosed Transactions) 

In July 2026, 5 M&A deals were reported. 
Cumulatively, from January to July 2026, a total of 42 deals were recorded. Africa’s M&A market is showing signs of shifting from exit-driven to strategy-driven, with July’s deals — spanning mainly fintech and AI — showing buyers using acquisitions to add capabilities and accelerate market entry.
